Lesson 6 Basic English

The first half of the lesson, students completed the Giving Directions 2 worksheet which is to check understanding with the work from last week (positions of the buildings).

As I was preparing materials for this lesson, I realised that there is one more directions worksheet that I could teach the students which is 'Directions inside the Building'.

New vocab was introduced with this worksheet - lift, escalator, gym...

This lesson enabled students to understand the difference between the different floors in a department store or in a hotel (any building) i.e. Ground Floor, Lower Ground Floor, Top Floor, Basement...

There was a department store worksheet which the students can complete as they did say that they like doing worksheets with activities on them, however the last 30 minutes, the students didn't want to learn or do anything else as they were tired and we had covered a lot in this lesson.  Its too much for them to digest!

I taught very slowly today and kept repeating myself to make sure that the students understand and kept asking them whether anything needs going over again.  I believe the lesson went really well.  I really taken on board the feedback that was given last week about teaching too fast.  I feel really happy with the outcome of today's lesson and I succeeded in stopping myself from rushing!

One of the students did mention that if in each lesson, they take away (learn) 1 phrase/thing from it then to them it is really good as they really can't remember too much.  Another student mentioned that if they only learnt one thing from each lesson, then they would be wasting my effort teaching them...I told them that they have learnt it and they may not remember it now but one day if someone uses the same vocab or phrase then they would remember that they learnt it and it would ring a bell!
