I feel that the lessons (only taught 2) are all over the place - there is no structure to the lessons which I am not happy about. I have been doing a lesson plan every lesson to keep me on track and to ensure that there is structure to the lessons.
I have to admit that I am a very structured person and because I didn't know what has been taught by the original tutor, I feel very lost....
Luckily the students told me that I could teach them from fresh and ignore what the original tutor has taught them as due to their age, they have bad memory so they would have forgotten what they have learnt. I found this very reassuring - what I mean is I found what the students said very helpful towards my teaching as I was always worried that I would be teaching them something that they have already learnt and would lose interest and therefore my preparation would be useless if they have already learnt it.
This lesson I decided to focus on the 5 W's - What, Where. Why, Who, When and How.
I explained to the students that the 5 W's enable us to ask questions and using which W depends on what we want to ask. I gave them examples of the different kinds of questions for each W and H and then asked them to complete a worksheet which shows their understanding.
This lesson was very successful. The feedback that I received from the students was brilliant as they said that they totally understand what each W means which they didn't understand before.
I also taught them 'this' and 'that' which is really useful when the student is actually speaking face to face i.e. what is this? what is that?
